Debora Konchinsky, our chief designer and founder, is an expert in machine appliqué and machine quilting. She originated the idea of non-repeating blocks. Through our patterns, designed by Debora and her assistants, and our video, we share with you simple techniques that we use to get unique results. We hope that your quilts will not be exact copies of the quilts pictured on the covers of our patterns. We will give suggestions for choosing colors, fabrics, and types of prints to help you get started. Even if you use a fabric pack that we cut, your choices for which fabric goes where, will make your quilt different. In every pattern we tell you how to set up the sewing machine and how to do all the special effects that we have included in the quilts pictured. We assume you know how to sew, but maybe have not made a quilt before. You can make your project as complicated or as easy as you want by limiting (or duplicating) the number of designs you choose to use. So, if you are a beginner, try making a place mat first. It is just a small quilt with a single critter in the center. Learn the techniques, so when you are ready put 20 critters together, you will know what you are doing.
